My Spiritual Calling

“How can I find my spiritual calling?”People want to know how they can find what their spiritual calling is, i.e. what God is calling them to do with their life. They want to know the one, grand purpose God has for them, the one dominant spiritual gift that will reach hundreds or thousands or millions. The truth is, however, God doesn’t call many people to dedicate their lives to one specific area. And if He does, He does so in His own timing. In popular Christian culture, it is usually the people who find their niche and stay there for years who get the attention. Major para-church leaders, musicians, and evangelists often spend decades working at and perfecting the one area in which God has called them to serve. But the vast majority of believers are not called to a single, ground-breaking ministry. Instead, we’re called to several, depending on our stage of life, our spiritual maturity level, and the needs of those around us. God calls us to serve where we are. Someone with the gift of teaching may lead a Sunday school class for a while, teach at a Christian school, and then write curriculum. Or they may work at a bank and find opportunity to teach others about God through more informal situations.

We are ultimately called to fill the needs of the body

1 Corinthians 12:7

A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other.

but that doesn’t mean we’ll have a single, lifelong ministry to concentrate on, although sometimes it does.Sometimes God does give an individual a specific ministry, but He always does so in His own timing. Like training before a competition, it takes time to develop the wisdom and skills we need

1 Corinthians 3:2

I had to feed you with milk, not with solid food, because you weren't ready for anything stronger. And you still aren't ready,

If God were to give us the mission before the training, we’d try to do too much too soon. Instead, God holds us back, taking time to build our practical skills

Luke 2:52

Jesus grew in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and all the people.

spiritual knowledge

2 Peter 3:18

Rather, you must grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. All glory to him, both now and forever! Amen.

and faith

James 2:22

You see, his faith(He is talking about Abraham) and his actions worked together. His actions made his faith complete.

and perseveranceJames 1:2-4Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.

Romans 11:29

For God's gifts and his call can never be withdrawn.

1 Corinthians 1:2

I am writing to God's church in Corinth, to you who have been called by God to be his own holy people. He made you holy by means of Christ Jesus, just as he did for all people everywhere who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, their Lord and ours.

Ephesians 1:18

I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called-his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance.

Ephesians 4:1

Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God.Ephesians 4:4

For there is one body and one Spirit, just as you have been called to one glorious hope for the future.

2 Thessalonians 1:11

So we keep on praying for you, asking our God to enable you to live a life worthy of his call. May he give you the power to accomplish all the good things your faith prompts you to do.

2 Timothy 1:9

For God saved us and called us to live a holy life. He did this, not because we deserved it, but because that was his plan from before the beginning of time-to show us his grace through Christ Jesus.

Hebrews 3:1

And so, dear brothers and sisters who belong to God and are partners with those called to heaven, think carefully about this Jesus whom we declare to be God's messenger and High Priest.

2 Peter 1:10

So, dear brothers and sisters, work hard to prove that you really are among those God has called and chosen. Do these things, and you will never fall away.

Many people are anxious to discover their calling from God, but when “calling” is used in the New Testament, it almost always refers to our calling as believers, not our calling to a specific ministry. Ultimately, our “calling” is to love God, love others, obey God, and take care of others. If we concentrate on fulfilling the responsibilities He’s given us now, God will take care of our impact on the world.
