“Will we be able to see and know our friends and family members in Heaven? Many people say that the first thing they want to do when they arrive in heaven is see all their friends and loved ones who have passed on before them. In eternity, there will be plenty of time to see, know, and spend time with our friends and family members. However, that will not be our primary focus in heaven. We will be far more occupied with worshipping God and enjoying the wonders of heaven. Our reunions with loved ones are more likely to be filled with recounting the grace and glory of God in our lives, His wondrous love, and His mighty works. We will rejoice all the more because we can praise and worship the Lord in the company of other believers, especially those we loved on earth. What does the Bible say about whether we will be able to recognize people in the afterlife? King Saul recognized Samuel when the witch of Endor summoned Samuel from the realm of the dead

1 Samuel 28:8-178 So Saul disguised himself by wearing ordinary clothing instead of his royal robes. Then he went to the woman's home at night, accompanied by two of his men."I have to talk to a man who has died," he said. "Will you call up his spirit for me?"9 "Are you trying to get me killed?" the woman demanded. "You know that Saul has outlawed all the mediums and all who consult the spirits of the dead. Why are you setting a trap for me?"10 But Saul took an oath in the name of the Lord and promised, "As surely as the Lord lives, nothing bad will happen to you for doing this."11 Finally, the woman said, "Well, whose spirit do you want me to call up?""Call up Samuel," Saul replied.12 When the woman saw Samuel, she screamed, "You've deceived me! You are Saul!"13 "Don't be afraid!" the king told her. "What do you see?""I see a god[a] coming up out of the earth," she said.14 "What does he look like?" Saul asked."He is an old man wrapped in a robe," she replied. Saul realized it was Samuel, and he fell to the ground before him.15 "Why have you disturbed me by calling me back?" Samuel asked Saul."Because I am in deep trouble," Saul replied. "The Philistines are at war with me, and God has left me and won't reply by prophets or dreams. So I have called for you to tell me what to do."16 But Samuel replied, "Why ask me, since the Lord has left you and has become your enemy? 17 The Lord has done just as he said he would. He has torn the kingdom from you and given it to your rival, David.

When David's infant son died, David declared,2 Samuel 12:2323 But why should I fast when he is dead? Can I bring him back again? I will go to him one day, but he cannot return to me."David assumed that he would be able to recognize his son in heaven, despite the fact that he died as a baby. Abraham, Lazarus, and the rich man were all recognizable after death. Luke 16:19-3119 Jesus said, "There was a certain rich man who was splendidly clothed in purple and fine linen and who lived each day in luxury.20 At his gate lay a poor man named Lazarus who was covered with sores. 21 As Lazarus lay there longing for scraps from the rich man's table, the dogs would come and lick his open sores.22 "Finally, the poor man died and was carried by the angels to be with Abraham.(into Abraham's bosom) The rich man also died and was buried, 23 and his soul went to the place of the dead.(to Hades) There, in torment, he saw Abraham in the far distance with Lazarus at his side.24 "The rich man shouted, ÔÇÿFather Abraham, have some pity! Send Lazarus over here to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue. I am in anguish in these flames.'25 "But Abraham said to him, ÔÇÿSon, remember that during your lifetime you had everything you wanted, and Lazarus had nothing. So now he is here being comforted, and you are in anguish. 26 And besides, there is a great chasm separating us. No one can cross over to you from here, and no one can cross over to us from there.'27 "Then the rich man said, ÔÇÿPlease, Father Abraham, at least send him to my father's home. 28 For I have five brothers, and I want him to warn them so they don't end up in this place of torment.'29 "But Abraham said, ÔÇÿMoses and the prophets have warned them. Your brothers can read what they wrote.'30 "The rich man replied, ÔÇÿNo, Father Abraham! But if someone is sent to them from the dead, then they will repent of their sins and turn to God.'31 "But Abraham said, ÔÇÿIf they won't listen to Moses and the prophets, they won't listen even if someone rises from the dead.'"At the transfiguration, Moses and Elijah were recognizableMatthew 17:3-43 Suddenly, Moses and Elijah appeared and began talking with Jesus.4 Peter exclaimed, "Lord, it's wonderful for us to be here! If you want, I'll make three shelters as memorials(Greek three tabernacles)-one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah."In these examples, the Bible does seem to indicate that we will be recognizable after death. The Bible declares that when we arrive in heaven, we will "be like him [Jesus] for we shall see him as he is"1 John 3:22 Dear friends, we are already God's children, but he has not yet shown us what we will be like when Christ appears. But we do know that we will be like him, for we will see him as he really is.Just as our earthly bodies were of the first man Adam, so will our resurrection bodies be just like Christ's1 Corinthians 15:4747 Adam, the first man, was made from the dust of the earth, while Christ, the second man, came from heaven.1 Corinthians 15:49,5349 Just as we are now like the earthly man, we will someday be like[a] the heavenly man……..53 For our dying bodies must be transformed into bodies that will never die; our mortal bodies must be transformed into immortal bodies. Many people recognized Jesus after His resurrection

John 20:16,2016 "Mary!" Jesus said. She turned to him and cried out, "Rabboni!" (which is Hebrew for "Teacher").….. 20 As he spoke, he showed them the wounds in his hands and his side. They were filled with joy when they saw the Lord!

John 21:12

12 "Now come and have some breakfast!" Jesus said. None of the disciples dared to ask him, "Who are you?" They knew it was the Lord.

1 Corinthians 15:4-7

4 He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said. 5 He was seen by Peter(Greek Cephas ) and then by the Twelve. 6 After that, he was seen by more than 500 of his followers[] at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have died. 7 Then he was seen by James and later by all the apostles.

If Jesus was recognizable in His glorified body, we also will be recognizable in our glorified bodies. Being able to see our loved ones is a glorious aspect of heaven, but heaven is far more about God, and far less about us. What a pleasure it will be to be reunited with our loved ones and worship God with them for all eternity.
