Never be shaken…Romans 10:11

“As the Scriptures tell us, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be disgraced."

Just where does the Scripture say this? Paul is apparently quoting here from Isaiah 28:16, which is the following:

Therefore, this is what the Sovereign Lord says: "Look! I am placing a foundation stone in Jerusalem, (Hebrew in Zion.) a firm and tested stone. It is a precious cornerstone that is safe to build on. Whoever believes need never be shaken.( Greek version reads Look! I am placing a stone in the foundation of Jerusalem [literally Zion], / a precious cornerstone for its foundation, chosen for great honor. / Anyone who trusts in him will never be disgraced. Compare Rom 9:33; 1 Pet 2:6.)

The question is: Why did Paul change the Hebrew word for “be shaken.” to the Greek word for “ be disgraced.“?

He did the same thing in Romans 9:33. …God warned them of this in the Scriptures when he said, "I am placing a stone in Jerusalem(Greek in Zion) .that makes people stumble, a rock that makes them fall. But anyone who trusts in him will never be disgraced."[Isa 8:14; 28:16 (Greek version)]

…This verse makes the question even more involved, because here Paul combines the quote with Isaiah 8:14

He will keep you safe. But to Israel and Judah he will be a stone that makes people stumble, a rock that makes them fall. And for the people of Jerusalem he will be a trap and a snare.

Note also Peter does it aswell and combines both verses with:Psalm 118:22…1 Peter 2:6-8

As the Scriptures say, "I am placing a cornerstone in Jerusalem, (Greek in Zion)…chosen for great honor,and anyone who trusts in him will never be disgraced." Yes, you who trust him recognize the honor God has given him. But for those who reject him,"The stone that the builders rejected has now become the cornerstone."(Ps.118:22) And,"He is the stone that makes people stumble,…the rock that makes them fall."(Isaiah 8:14)They stumble because they do not obey God's word, and so they meet the fate that was planned for them.

The Greek Septuagint translation apparently rendered “be shaken” (which is the correct meaning of the Hebrew word, as confirmed by all its other uses in the Old Testament) by a Greek word meaning something like “be disgraced” More importantly, however, these passages illustrate the truth that the Holy Spirit (the real Author of the Bible) has a perfectright to interpret His writing however He will. And He interpreted “ be shaken” to mean “be disgraced”

That is, when we believe on Christ, we never need to be shaken by His enemies, for we can never be disgraced when anchored on this sure foundation. As the Lord said in another passage: “They shall not be ashamed that wait for me” Isaiah 49:23.

Kings and queens will serve you and care for all your needs. They will bow to the earth before you and lick the dust from your feet. Then you will know that I am the Lord.Those who trust in me will never be put to shame.(Be disgraced)"
