We Must Remain In Christ

We must remain in ChristJohn 15:4

"Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me.

The Lord Jesus has told us to be careful always to "abide”in Him.

The Greek word means "remain,” "endure,” "continue,” or "dwell.” He is to be our motivation, our standard, our home, our everything. When we do abide thus in Him, the Scriptures indicate that it will make a great difference in our lives right now, as well as in the life to come.

For example

1 John 2:6

Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Jesus did.

Furthermore

1 John 3:6

Anyone who continues to live in him will not sin. But anyone who keeps on sinning does not know him or understand who he is.

Love for our Christian brethren will be evident, for

1 John 2:10Anyone who loves another brother or sister is living in the light and does not cause others to stumble. We will obey His word

John 3:24

Those who obey God's commandments remain in fellowship with him, and he with them. And we know he lives in us because the Spirit he gave us lives in us

In Christ’s discourse on the vine and the branchesthere are several wonderful promises to the Christian.

John 15:1-16

Jesus, the True Vine "I am the true grapevine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch of mine that doesn't produce fruit, and he prunes the branches that do bear fruit so they will produce even more. You have already been pruned and purified by the message I have given you. Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me. "Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing. Anyone who does not remain in me is thrown away like a useless branch and withers. Such branches are gathered into a pile to be burned. But if you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted! When you produce much fruit, you are my true disciples. This brings great glory to my Father. "I have loved you even as the Father has loved me. Remain in my love. When you obey my commandments, you remain in my love, just as I obey my Father's commandments and remain in his love. I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow! This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you. There is no greater love than to lay down one's life for one's friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you slaves, because a master doesn't confide in his slaves. Now you are my friends, since I have told you everything the Father told me. You didn't choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit,so that the Father will give you whatever you ask for, using my name.

If we dwell in Christ, we actually are abiding in the Father and the Spirit also. Jesus said

John 14:17, 23He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive him, because it isn't looking for him and doesn't recognize him. But you know him, because he lives with you now and later will be in you.(Some manuscripts read and is in you.)……….Jesus replied, "All who love me will do what I say. My Father will love them, and we will come and make our home with each of them.

Therefore, let us "remain in fellowship with Christ

1 John 2:28And now, dear children, remain in fellowship with Christ so that when he returns, you will be full of courage and not shrink back from him in shame.
