Beware Of False Doctrine

Beware of false doctrine

Acts 20:28 "So guard yourselves and God's people. Feed and shepherd God's flock-his church, purchased with his own blood-over which the Holy Spirit has appointed you as elders

On his way back to Jerusalem, Paul decided not to stop at Ephesus, fearing a lengthy delay. But this church was much on his heart, and he recognized that he might not see them again. In order to give them one last bit of instruction and encouragement, he called the elders to meet with him, where they had a most touching time together

Acts 20:30-38Even some men from your own group will rise up and distort the truth in order to draw a following. Watch out! Remember the three years I was with you-my constant watch and care over you night and day, and my many tears for you. "And now I entrust you to God and the message of his grace that is able to build you up and give you an inheritance with all those he has set apart for himself. "I have never coveted anyone's silver or gold or fine clothes. You know that these hands of mine have worked to supply my own needs and even the needs of those who were with me. And I have been a constant example of how you can help those in need by working hard. You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.'" When he had finished speaking, he knelt and prayed with them. They all cried as they embraced and kissed him good-bye. They were sad most of all because he had said that they would never see him again. Then they escorted him down to the ship.

What was Paul's main concern?Acts. 20:29-31"I know that false teachers, like vicious wolves, will come in among you after I leave, not sparing the flock. Even some men from your own group will rise up and distort the truth in order to draw a following. Watch out! Remember the three years I was with you-my constant watch and care over you night and day, and my many tears for you"

Later, Paul sent Timothy to Ephesus,

1 Timothy 1:3

When I left for Macedonia, I urged you to stay there in Ephesus and stop those whose teaching is contrary to the truth.

The Greek word used here means “a different kind of doctrine” and is used only twice. Certainly, the false doctrine that concerned Paul the most was a works-oriented salvation.

Galatians 1:6

I am shocked that you are turning away so soon from God, who called you to himself through the loving mercy of Christ.[a] You are following a different way that pretends to be the Good “.

Paul also concerned himself with lifestyle.

1 Timothy 6:3,5 Some people may contradict our teaching, but these are the wholesome teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ. These teachings promote a godly life. These people always cause trouble. Their minds are corrupt, and they have turned their backs on the truth. To them, a show of godliness is just a way to become wealthy.

The list of characteristics of the false teachers given 1 Timothy 6:4 contrasts markedly with those resulting from proper doctrine and life, Anyone who teaches something different is arrogant and lacks understanding. Such a person has an unhealthy desire to quibble over the meaning of words. This stirs up arguments ending in jealousy, division, slander, and evil suspicions..

1 Timothy 1:5."The purpose of my instruction is that all believers would be filled with love that comes from a pure heart, a clear conscience, and genuine faith". May our lives be characterized by these qualities.
